Betty L. Dormady

NEW ULM — Betty L. Dormady, age 94, of New Ulm, died Monday, May 4, 2020 at Oak Hills Living Center.

Due to the current social restraints, a private family service will be held at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Timothy Smith will officiate, and burial will follow in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.

The service will be live streamed starting at 11 am on Friday on the Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes Facebook page.

Betty is survived by her children, Jim Gohr of Hampton, VA, Jane (Gary) Anderson of Longville, MN, Jon (Beth) Gohr of New Ulm and Cindy (Jim) Talledge of New Ulm; sisters, Karen (Jerry) Benjamin, Jolene (Chuck) Frederick of Jackson and Mary Ann Miller of New Ulm; brothers, William (Karen) Grunst Jr. of Windom and Alan (Marlys)Grunst of West Des Moines. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters and brothers in law around the country.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ethel Grunst; her daughter, Bonnie; former husbands, Robert Gohr and Tom Dormady; brothers, Alfred and Alvin Grunst; and a sister, Donna Soehren.

Betty Louise Grunst was born on February 20, 1926 in Enterprise Township, Jackson County, MN to William & Ethel (Ingebretson) Grunst. After being raised on the farm and finishing school she was married to Robert Gohr on Nov, 24, 1945 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Kimball Township. They together had 5 children. They farmed on a place north of Sherburn and later divorced. Betty moved several times with her children and finally settled in New Ulm where she worked for 20 years at 3M and retired. She liked to spend time with her family, play cards, watch and listen to Twins baseball. She was a member of St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church and always held to her faith in the Lord Jesus to comfort her in life. Blessed be her memory and peace to her in the presence of Jesus in her new forever home in Heaven.
