Guy “Gus” Hoppe

Our beloved son, brother, uncle, and great-uncle Guy passed from this world to the next on April 24th. He was joyfully welcomed into the world at 7 a.m. on a snowy Easter Sunday, April 10, 1966, the third child and first son of Marvin & Carol Hoppe of rural Madelia. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Guy attended Madelia public schools, graduating as a member of the Class of 1984. He spent many happy years farming and raising livestock with his dad. Later he moved to New Ulm, where he was employed at MRCI as a production worker.

He lived his life with joy, humor, grace, and thoughtfulness in spite of the challenges of epilepsy. He loved sports and found satisfaction in participating in the Special Olympics in New Ulm, where he competed in area, regional and state tournaments. He developed deep and meaningful friendships while playing the sports he loved. He was also a state-wide ambassador for the program.

He is survived by his mom, Carol of Eden Prairie; sisters: Jeanne (Kevin) McCabe of Madelia, Erica (Norman) Witt of Eagan: nephews and nieces: Nate (Sarah) McCabe, Megan McCabe, Matthew Witt, Alaina Witt; great-nephews: Eli and Gabe McCabe, William, Benjamin, and great-niece Josie McCabe. He is preceded in death by his dad.

Guy rose above his health challenges to the best of his ability. He’s restored now and free to be who he always wanted to be.

A private family service will be held at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Bloomington, MN, on May 2nd. Inurnment to be held at a later date.
