Donald Wiese

COMFREY — Donald Wiese, age 87, of Comfrey, died on January 13, 2020, at Sleepy Eye Medical Center in Sleepy Eye, MN.

Visitation will be on Thursday, January 16, 2020, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Sturm Funeral Home, Comfrey Chapel and will continue on Friday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey, MN.

Service will be held at the New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey on Friday at 11:00 am.

The clergy will be Jerome Klotz. Interment will be at the New Hope Faith Lutheran Cemetery in Comfrey, MN.

Donald Lloyd Wiese was born on February 2, 1932, the son of Leonard and Vineta (Hoffman) Wiese at the Springfield Hospital in Springfield, MN. After graduating from Mt. Lake Schools, he served in the US Army from 1952-1954. On November 27, 1960, Don was united in marriage to Joyce Becker at Christ Lutheran Church in Stately Township. Don started farming with his brother Kenny and his father, then later farmed on his own. He also was a seed corn dealer. Don was a member of the Albin Johnson American Legion, DAV, National Farmer’s Organization where he served 9 years and treasurer and 9 years as a director, and 4H as a child. He participated in the National Corn Picking Contest where he placed 2nd. Don was a former member of Faith Lutheran Church and current member of New Hope Lutheran Church. He enjoyed baseball, tractor pulls, playing cards, snow blowing, listening and dancing to polka music, traveling. Don loved time with his family, farming, eating pie, ice cream, and strawberry shakes. He greatly enjoyed spending time uptown having coffee and socializing.

He is survived by his wife Joyce of Comfrey; children – Ramona (Jim) Widmer of New Ulm, Debra (Burt) Manz of Park Rapids, David (Nancy) Wiese of New Ulm; grandchildren – Adam (Maddison) Manz, Donald Manz, Shaina Widmer, Breanna Widmer, Jim (Michele) Widmer Jr., Melanie Meinert (fiancé Jeremy Braun); great grandchildren – Corbin, Jasmine, Hailey, and Anden; brother Kenny (Mary) Wiese of Comfrey; sisters – Betty Jane Wiese of Comfrey and Rita Sell of Windom; and many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents; son Douglas; brother-in-law Orvis Sell; and nephew Robert Wiese.
