NEW ULM — Richard M. Bruns, age 80, of New Ulm, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Pastor Timothy Smith will officiate, and burial will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – NORTH Chapel in New Ulm. The visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Sue (Larry) Christensen of Morgan, Karen (Troy) Traulich and Kelly (Brady) Dalton, both of New Ulm; a son, Kevin (Chris) Bruns of Lafayette; six grandchildren, Heidi (Kyle) Cumberland, Holly (Jayme) Bode, Mitch Traulich, Shane Traulich, Emma (Tony) Vaske, and Erin Christensen; great-grandchildren, Cole Cumberland and Waylon Bode; brothers, Roger Bruns, Gary (Shirley) Bruns and Tom (Ann) Bruns; sisters-in-law, Florence (Danny) Halvorson, Jane (Tom) Mueller, and Lydia Liesenfeld; brother-in-law, Wilbert (Jan) Liesenfeld; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends

He was preceded in death by his wife, Adeline; his parents; in-laws, Henry and Clara Liesenfeld; brother, Myron (Lila) Bruns; sisters, Sylvia (Wally) Wills, Lois (Ronnie) Dauffenbach, and Ardis (Harlan) Wills; sister-in-law, Lois Bruns; brother-in-law, Henry Liesenfeld Jr; and nephews, Leo Liesenfeld, Mike Liesenfeld and Brandon James.

Richard Moritz Bruns was born on Sept. 15, 1939 in New Ulm to Dietrich and Stella (Plagge) Bruns. He was united in marriage to Adeline Liesenfeld on Jan. 27, 1962 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Courtland. Richard farmed until he retired in 2001. During his retirement, he worked part time at Hewitt Rolla Dock in Nicollet and Schell’s Brewery. Richard enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards and bingo. Most of all he loved spending time with family and friends. Richard was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he ushered for many years. He also was a longtime member of the Sigel Athletic Association.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of plants and flowers.
