Charles “Chuck” Kiecker

NEW ULM — Charles Romayne Kiecker, age 92, was called home by our Lord on Sept. 19, 2019. Chuck was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, brother, and friend to many.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2019 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Grant Bode officiating. Burial will be in the New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldier’s Rest Section, with full military honors being conducted by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Sunday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, SOUTH CHAPEL, in New Ulm. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Monday. To leave an online condolence or to sign the guestbook go to: www.mvfh.org.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth Kiecker; daughters, Joan (Chester) Gilmore, Barbara (John) Kaminski, Sarah (James) Schwarz, Laura (David) Keene; a son, Steven (Laurie Luehmann) Kiecker; grandchildren, Nicole (Shane) Hendron, Nora (Daniel Spratt) Kiecker, Nathan Kiecker, John Kaminski Jr., Katie Kaminski, Scott (Kate) Kaminski, Jay Schwarz, William (Bethany) Schwarz, Claire (Connor Stark) Schwarz, and Emily (Sam Rengel) Gilmore; great-grandchildren, Roman, Payton, Taytum, Paxton, Bryleigh, Charles, Emma, Neva, and Rose; brother, Thomas “Tim” Kiecker; sisters-in-law, Naomi Budahn, Marie Lodwig, Evelyn Marxhausen; and brother-in-law, Benjamin (Joanne) Marxhausen. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Neva (Wanstrom) Kiecker; grandson, Marcus Gilmore; and many other family members.

Charles “Chuck” Romayne Kiecker was born October 3,1926 in New Ulm to John and Neva Kiecker of Gibbon. Two years later, Chuck was joined by his best friend and brother, Thomas “Tim”. Chuck was confirmed in 1941. He was baptized, confirmed, and graduated in Gibbon. After high school, Chuck joined the United States Army and served from February 1, 1945 until 1947. At that time, he enrolled in college at Gustavus Adolphus College and graduated in 1950 with a bachelor’s degree in Business and Administration. In 1953 Chuck was united in marriage with Ruth Marxhausen at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Courtland by Ruth’s father, Rev. E.J.A. Marxhausen, and brother, Rev. Victor Marxhausen. Together, God blessed them with five children, Joan, Barbara, Steven, Sarah, and Laura. After graduation from college, Chuck was hired at Dun and Bradstreet in Minneapolis. In 1951, he started is career at Farmers and Merchants Bank in New Ulm. He served as a Vice President from 1970 until his retirement in 1997.

In retirement, Chuck enjoyed sports of all kinds, but particularly baseball. He loved his New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins. He enjoyed yearly trips to the Boundary Waters to fish with family. Chuck was a lifelong member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and held various positions throughout the years. He enjoyed walks along Summit Avenue, ballgames, picking up sticks in his yard, shooting hoops in his driveway, and spending time with his family. He loved telling stories about his time in the military and reading world war history.

Chuck was always proud of his donations to the American Red Cross. He was working on his 19th gallon of blood. He also donated his time for many years to Meals on Wheels.

Chuck was a member of the American Legion Post 132, Chamber of Commerce for 40 years, and served on various civic committees and boards, as well as a founder of the Willkommen Committee. He also enjoyed watching as his family grew through the years. He took great pride in being the best father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and was always active in his family members’ lives.
