Tom is survived by his wife, Ione Grossmann of Searles; his daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Gerrit Korthof of Princeton; his son, Andy Grossmann of St. James; grand-daughters, Kristen Grossmann of Arizona, Sydney Grossmann of St, James; sisters, Margery (Paul) Hoffman of New Ulm, and Joyce (Don Krocak) Kuck of Mankato; sister-in-law, Barb Grossmann of Searles; and brother-in-law, Lynn Fluegge of Nicollet. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Tim Grossmann in 2005; and his sister, Mary Fluegge; and brother, Charles Grossmann.

Thomas John Grossmann was born September 12, 1944, in New Ulm to Willard and Eleanore (Drexler) Grossmann. He attended grade school at St. John’s Catholic School in Searles and was a 1962 graduate from Cathedral High School. On September 12, 1964, Tom was united in marriage to Ione Krzmarzick at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. This union blessed the couple with two sons and a daughter whom together they raised on their farm in Linden Township. Early in his life, Tom worked as a dairy farmer for 20 years before starting his 11-year career at Kraft. Tom always took great pride in keeping his yard and farm looking great. As a handy-man, he could always be found tinkering on something in his shop, and dearly enjoyed restoring and repairing Allis Chalmers tractors. As a true social butterfly, Tom greeted everyone he met with a warm smile, and could visit with anyone. Many wonderful memories were made over the years on trips taken with his wife Ione. As an active member of his community, Tom served as president of the REA Roundup, president of the CUF, was a dedicated volunteer at the New Ulm Medical Center, Heartland Express where he would drive his own vehicle, and most recently was volunteering with Ione delivering Meals on Wheels. As an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Searles, he spent many hours volunteering with his church as well. Tom held a close place in his heart for the children and families in San Lucas and all of the mission work done there. Tom always said, “Once you been to San Lucas, your heart will always be there.” Besides all of the work Tom did on over his life, what he took the most pride in was his family. He truly loved each of them, and dearly loved getting to see his granddaughters grow. Although Tom’s passing seems difficult to all who knew him, countless cherished memories of Tom will forever stay in our hearts. Blessed be those memories.

Memorials are preferred to the San Lucas Mission-Friends of San Lucas, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Searles, NUACS, or the donor’s choice.
