Kenneth Weicherding

SPRINGFIELD — Kenneth Edward Weicherding was born October 13, 1940, in the Springfield Hospital, Springfield, Minnesota. He was the only child of Albert and Alice Weicherding.

After graduating from Springfield High School in 1958, Kenneth was employed by Franklin Life Insurance Company, New Ulm Daily Journal, and Swansons before beginning his 22 year career with Pamida in 1970. He managed the New Ulm Pamida store until his retirement in 1992.

On November 10, 1962, Kenneth married Joan Delores Kretsch at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Sanborn, Minnesota. The couple made their home in New Ulm, Minnesota, and were blessed by two daughters, Pamela Jo and Susan Kay.

Throughout his life, Kenneth enjoyed a number of hobbies and activities. He had a great interest in antiques; acquiring and selling them throughout his adult life. This interest ultimately lead to an investment in Antique Haus, an antiques and collectibles store in New Ulm.

Kenneth enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He liked working in his yard, watching the Twins and Vikings on television, or relaxing with a good book. He was an avid reader. In his retirement, Kenneth read two newspapers every day and loved reading adventure novels on his iPad. In his younger years, Kenneth could often be found fishing at a nearby lake with his father. By far though, Kenneth’s greatest joy was spending time with his wife, daughters, and grandchildren.

Kenneth will be remembered for his big heart, warm smile and tremendous spirit. He had a fantastic sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh. He was a loving son, devoted husband, and wonderful father and grandfather.
