He was born on Nov. 2, 1925 to Joseph and Beulah (Tuttle) Savage in Delton Township, Cottonwood County.

He served in the Army Air Force from 1943 to 1945.

He is survived by his son Gary Savage; daughters, Colleen Savage and Shannon Quistorff; 6 granddaughters; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Skip (Marvo) Savage, Doug (Essie) Savage, Tom (Coleen) Savage, Pat (John) Rolloff, David (Lesa) Savage, Ginger (Gene) Veerkamp, and Mary Jo (Steele) Propp; brother-in-law Don (Donna) Schneider.

He was preceded by his wife, Barbara Jean Savage, on April 18, 2019.

Visitations for Bernie and Barb will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Raphael’s Catholic church in Springfield.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. at St. Raphael’s. Burial will follow the service at St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery in Comfrey. Lunch will be back at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church.
