Loren Paul Rans

Loren Paul Rans, 98, died June 25, 2019, at St. John Lutheran Home Springfield, Minnesota. A private graveside was held at the Winthrop Cemetery.

Loren was born November 9, 1920, in Clements, MN, the son of Andrew and Hattie (Green) Rans. Loren attended District 13 Country School in Sundown Township and graduated from Springfield High School. He entered the U.S. Navy in the fall of 1942, served aboard the U.S.S. Goff, and was honorably discharged in May of 1945. He returned to the family farm in Sundown Township near Clements, MN. On June 13, 1946, Loren was united in marriage to Delores Johnson at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springfield.

In addition to farming, Loren traded farm machinery and operated a livestock trucking company. Loren was an avid sports fan of Vikings football and Twins baseball and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, playing cards, bowling and spending time with his family. He looked forward to spending winters in Mesa, Arizona and taking summer trips to Seattle and the Canadian Rockies. He was a 50-year member of John Watson American Legion Post 257, Catholic Order of Foresters, and St. Raphael’s Catholic Church.

Survivors are sons Dennis and Merlyn of Seattle, WA and Dean of Springfield, MN, and daughter Mary Ellen and husband Douglas Hoffert of Starbuck, MN, grandchildren Kate and husband Zach Witt of Alexandria, MN and Christopher Hoffert and wife Kattie of Starbuck, MN, great grandchildren Dylan, Talan and Quinn Witt and Brody and Taylor Hoffert, and a sister Norleen Rans of North Mankato, MN,

He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Hattie, his wife Delores, brother Fr. Norbert Rans, and sisters Dolores Jacobs and Janet Sullivan.
