James F. “Jim” Meyer
NEW ULM — James F. “Jim” Meyer, 85, of New Ulm died Thursday, June 20, 2019 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Nate Scharf officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm with full military honors being conducted by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Wednesday. James is survived by his wife, Luverne Meyer; daughter, Susan Meyer; sons, Bryan (Deb) Meyer, Kevin Meyer and fiancée, Kris Wendinger, Keith Meyer; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; sisters, LaVon Whalen and Burnell Steinbach and a brother, Roger Meyer. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Steinbach.
James Fred Meyer was born on February 16, 1934 in New Ulm to Raymond and Lydia (Dalueg) Meyer. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. On June 15, 1958 he was united in marriage to Luverne Stoll at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.
James worked at Wallner Construction, Sioux Valley Readymix, and M&R Paving as a truck driver. He played softball in his youth and enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards, watching the Minnesota Twins, and really enjoyed their trip to Germany. He was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, and the Sons of the American Legion Post #132 in New Ulm.
