The Lord welcomed Lee Stern home to heaven on June 15, 2019. He died peacefully surrounded by his family at Oak Hills hospice care in New Ulm, MN.

Lee Frederick Stern was born September 17, 1951, to Ewald and Alma (Pabst) Stern, in Springfield Minnesota. Lee attended Springfield Elementary School and Sanborn High School where he graduated in 1969. Upon high school graduation, Lee attended Mankato Commercial College and studied in the field of Accounting. Following graduation, Lee enlisted in the U.S. army. He was stationed in Germany serving in the 3rd Infantry Division in an artillery unit. He received an honorable discharge in 1972.

Lee returned home to farm in both the Sanborn and Springfield area. Lee was a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church in Sanborn. It was there that he met his wife, Sharon. They were married on June 21, 1974, in Manitowoc, WI. They had two children, Michael and Katherine. Lee farmed the family farm until he retired in 2014.

In retirement he enjoyed working around the farm and fishing on Lake Mary with family and friends. He was a fan of his granddaughters’ sports and theater activities… and they will fondly remember Grandpa for his 4-wheeler rides and friendly teasing.

Lee was a member of the American Legion in Springfield, and served on the church board and school board at Zion Lutheran Church in Sanborn.

Lee is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Stern; his children Michael (Sheila) Stern and three granddaughters of Maple Grove, MN, and Katherine (Vince) Glass of Sacramento, CA; his mother Alma Bredvold of Springfield, MN; siblings Ed (Deb) Stern of Goodhue, MN and Carol (Norbert) Evers of Mankato, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Lee is preceded in death by his father, Ewald Stern; step-father Ray Bredvold; father-in-law Vernon Buth; and nephew Cole Stern.

The Stern family would like to especially thank the oncology staff of the New Ulm Medical Center and the hospice care team at Oak Hills for their loving care and concern shown to Lee throughout his battle with cancer.
