Don Lage

NEW ULM — Don Lage, 89, of New Ulm died Thursday, June 6, 2019 at his home.

Visitation will be 4 – 7 PM Monday, June 17, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm.

A private family service will be held with Deacon Rick Christiansen officiating. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery with full military honors being conducted by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Don is survived by his daughters, Roxanne (Douglas) Dallmann and Lisa (Richard) Meyer all of New Ulm; sons, Thomas (Claire) Lage of Apple Valley, James (Erika) Lage of Waconia and Steven (Kaylyn) Lage of New Ulm; and his sisters, Pat and Jo’ ell; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Myrna of 62 years; and a sister Deanna.

Don George Lage was born October 10, 1929 in Worthington to Harvey and Viola (Scherff) Lage. He was a 1948 graduate of Worthington High School and from Mankato Vo Tech in 1955. He served in the U. S. Army in Korea from 1951 – 1952 and received the Purple Heart. Don was united in marriage to Myrna Donahue September 17, 1955 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Westbrook. After marriage he worked for Montgomery Wards in Mankato they then moved to New Ulm where he was employed by Alwin Electric, Fesenmaier Hardware and then Kraft Foods for 20 years until his retirement in 1989. After retiring he was employed part time at Broadway House, Orchard Hills, New Ulm Medical Center in maintenance and helped with funeral lunches at Cathedral. Don was an avid Twins fan and was a member of Cathedral, American Legion, lifetime DAV and VFW and a charter member of the Purple Hearts.
