NEW ULM — Beverly A. Affolter, age 86, of New Ulm, died peacefully on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at St. Cloud Hospital surrounded by her family.

Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Pastor Rob Gunther will officiate, and burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-SOUTH Chapel and continue from 10-11 am on Wednesday at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Beverly is survived by her daughters, Susan (Brent) Carlson of Duluth, Julie (Ray) Thompson of Sartell, and Nancy (Barry) Vogel of Chanhassen; a son, David Affolter of Minturn, CO; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three bonus great-grandchildren; and nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen; her parents; and her sisters, Donna Hall and Shirley Sandberg.

Beverly Ann Berry was born on May 17, 1933 in Marshall to Charles & Marie (Madsen) Berry. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1951 and then attended the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. Beverly was united in marriage to Allen Affolter on May 1, 1955 in Marshall. She worked at Pillsbury Mills in Minneapolis before moving to New Ulm in 1955. In 1975 Beverly started working as a receptionist and switchboard operator for Union Hospital and then the New Ulm Medical Center for eighteen years. Beverly liked traveling to state and national parks, mountains, zoos, camping, fishing, flowers, birds, and butterflies. Most of all, she especially loved spending time with her family.

Memorials are preferred to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Brown County Humane Society.
