Edgar B. Leske

WINTHROP — Edgar B. Leske, age 80, of Winthrop, passed away peacefully Monday, June 25, 2018 at his home.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop with Pastor Paul Tessmer officiating. Burial will follow in the Winthrop Community Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m. Friday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Saturday.

Edgar is survived by his wife of 54 years, Doris; three sons, Jason of St. Joseph, MO, Aaron of Gaylord, and Adam (special friend, Jennifer Marr and her children, David, Britney, and Katherine) of Winthrop; grandchildren, Jacob and Lucas Leske; daughter from a previous union, Debra Leske Bell; sister, Adeline Grosam; sister-in-law, Betty Peterson; and many nieces, nephews, and family friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Natalie; a brother, Delbert; two sisters, Clarice Draeger and Evelyn Buker; in-laws, Daniel Grosam, Iver Buker, Wilton & Helen Grieger, Lester Peterson, Jim & LaVerne Greenough, and Dee Kenzi; and a nephew, Gary Grosam.

Edgar Bernard Leske was born on January 12, 1938 to Harry A. and Selma (Pagel) Leske at Union Hospital in New Ulm. He was baptized on February 6, 1938 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bismarck Township. He was confirmed on June 8, 1952 at Zion Lutheran Church. He graduated from Winthrop High School in 1956.

Ed married Doris Ann Matthes, daughter of Walter and Hazel Matthes, on April 5, 1964 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gaylord. Four children were born to this union to include daughter, Natalie and sons, Jason, Aaron and Adam.

Ed worked at Seneca Foods, formerly Green Giant in Glencoe for 45 years, retiring in 2011. His joy was farming on the family farm with his sons. Ed had previously lived on a farm site near Gibbon, moving to the current family farm site in Transit Township in 1941 at the age of 3 years old. He also enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, traveling and working in the shop at home. He loved to spend time with his family and grandsons.
