NEW ULM — Helen “Mickey” Esser, 98, of New Ulm died Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 25, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Father Germaine Rademacher celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Monday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity.

The Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is handling the arrangements.

Mickey is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Neumann of Durango, Colorado; sons, Mike (Vonnie) Esser of New Ulm, Pat Esser of Houston, Texas, Tom (Anita) Esser of New Ulm; sister, Mary (Bob) Meffert of Marshall; brother, Ray (Lorraine) Lundquist of Golden Valley; 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; sisters, Rachael Sandland and Betty Lornell; and a great granddaughter, Kaylie Hogue.

Helen Lundquist was born Sept. 29, 1919 in East Union to Ray and Hulda (Dahl) Lundquist. She was united in marriage to Leo Esser on Aug. 4, 1940 at the St. Mary’s Parish House in New Ulm. After marriage they resided in New Ulm where Mickey was a homemaker and for many years a co-owner of Holiday Inn-Best Western Motel and the Liquor Mart. Her hobbies included knitting, gardening, puzzles, crocheting, baking and reading. Mickey’s real love was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, New Ulm Medical Center Auxiliary and a past member of the St. Anne’s Court of the National Society of Foresters.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
