Mavis E. Gluth

SPRINGFIELD — Mavis E. Gluth, age 83, of Springfield, MN died on June 3, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Springfield, MN.

Visitation will be on Thursday, June 7, 2018, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield and will continue on Friday from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield.

Service will be held at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield on Friday at 10:30 am.

The clergy will be Pastor Tricia Mattson. Interment will be at the Springfield City Cemetery in Springfield, MN.

Mavis Edna Gluth was born on August 17, 1934 to Wallace G. and Edna C. (Stern) Radtke in Springfield. Mavis attended Springfield Public Schools graduating in 1952 and continued her education at Mankato Business College. Following college, she lived in Minneapolis and worked as secretary to the cashier at Lincoln National Life Company. On July 21, 1954, Mavis was united in marriage to John R. Gluth at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield. The couple lived in the cities until moving to Rapid City, SD where John was stationed in the U.S. Air Force. After moving back to Springfield, Mavis worked as bookkeeper at Vigorena Feeds, Hornick Farm Supply, and as cashier at Minnegasco in Sleepy Eye. In April 1985, Mavis purchased the drive-in and was owner and operator of MaMa G’s drive-in until May 1995 proudly serving her famous broasted chicken. Mavis also cooked at the Springfield American Legion preparing meals for various events, including Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day celebrations. She was active at St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Mary Magdalene Circle, and active in the American Legion Auxiliary serving in all the offices. Mavis enjoyed cooking, flowers, gardening, bowling, fishing, wintering in Arizona, and watching the Minnesota Twins. Mavis loved being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother and loved her family dearly. She cherished her time spent with John and her family.

She is survived by her husband John of Springfield; children Greg of Sleepy Eye, Jeff (Patricia) of Springfield, and Lisa (Larry) Pelzel of Sleepy Eye; grandchildren – Travis (Kim) Gluth and their two sons Parker and Hayden, Lance Gluth and special friend Jenna Friton and their daughter Kristen, Brady Gluth and special friend Stephanie Hernandez, Tabor (Ashley) Gluth and their daughter Mattie, Michael Gluth, Leslie (Shaun) Rodeberg, and Taylor Pelzel and special friend Collin Kerkhoff. Mavis was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Ron Voeks; grandson Samuel Robert Pelzel; granddaughter Kristin Ann Gluth; and daughter-in-law Brenda Lee Gluth.
