Edward ‘Eddie’ George Saffert, Jr.

NEW ULM — Edward “Eddie” George Saffert, Jr., age 83, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in Mankato.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Burial will follow in the Soldier’s Rest section at the New Ulm City Cemetery, where the Comrades of Valor will provide military honors.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2018, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. Visitation will continue from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the South Chapel.

Edward is survived by his wife, JoAnn Saffert; daughter, Cindy (David) Schmidt of South Carolina; son, David Saffert of California; step-children, Cory (Jenifer) Reisdorf, Leanne (Mike) Grover, Scott (Sonia) Reisdorf; 4 grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Ann Nelson of Litchfield, Theresa Wilhelm of Sleepy Eye; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sharri Saffert; and his brother, Midge Saffert.

Edward George Saffert, Jr. was born May 11, 1934, to Edward and Barbara (Strauman) Saffert in Springfield. After he attended grade school, Eddie enlisted in the Army and served during Korean War from 1953-1955. Eddie then worked as a detailing technician at Chuck Spaeth Ford in New Ulm and, later, at Jensen Motors where he eventually retired. On November 12, 1994, Eddie was united in marriage to JoAnn Buxcel in New Ulm. During their free time, Eddie loved to travel, play cards, flip quarters with the Jensen Motors crew, and keep his vehicles clean. He will be missed by all who knew him, blessed be his memory.
