Stanley ‘Blazer’ Dittrich

NEW ULM — Stanley “Blazer” Dittrich, died Friday, April 13, 2018 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Thursday, April, 19 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm with Monsignor Douglas Grams celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be 3 – 7 PM Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and will continue from 9 – 10:30 AM Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm.

The St. John’s Court of the Catholic Order of Foresters will pray the rosary at 6 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.

Stanley is survived by his wife, Leona “Onie” Dittrich of New Ulm; daughters, Nancy and John G

inkel and Mary and Kevin Henle all of New Ulm; sons, Tom “Smokey” Dittrich and Carol Wendland, Bill and Laura Dittrich and Steve “Kirky” and Corrine Dittrich all of New Ulm; 14 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 3 great – great grandchildren; sisters, Agnes Griffiths of Mankato, Alice Blomquist of Mankato and Darlene Gleisner of Penn Valley, California; a brother, Les Dittrich of Kasota; and by two beloved sisters-in-law, Kay Dittrich and Liz Dittrich both of Mankato.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Lorraine Herzog; a brother, Leo Dittrich; his brothers-in-law, Denny Blomquist, Dick Herzog and Bill Griffiths; nieces, Kim Dittrich and Patty Poehler; and nephews, Greg Herzog and Doug Griffiths.

Stanley Henry Dittrich was born April 3, 1927 in New Ulm to John and Emma (Kretsch) Dittrich. He was a 1945 graduate of New Ulm High School where he played Football, Baseball and Wrestling, including participating in two Minnesota State Wrestling Tournaments. Stanley was united in marriage to Leona Hippert on September 9, 1942 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. After marriage they lived in rural Lafayette and moved to New Ulm in 1951. Stan received his Journeyman’s License in carpentry in 1952 and was employed with Walter Meyer Construction, Manderfeld Lumber and then Design Homes for 43 years until his retirement. He played amateur Baseball for Lafayette, Courtland and softball for the St. Mary’s Church team. He loved sports, music by Johnny Helget, a good party and EJ Brandy.

Stan was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 75 year Member of COF, New Ulm Country Club, New Ulm Bowling Hall of Fame, New Ulm Baseball Association and the New Ulm Baseball Hall of Fame. He was awarded the New Ulm Diocese Award from Bishop Raymond Luecker for his tireless work at the St. Mary’s Parish.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to Oak Hills Foundation, Allina Hospice Program or to the donor’s choice.
