Service will be held at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 11 a.m. The clergy will be Nathanael Mayhew. Interment will take place at a later date.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Family and friends will be gathering in Cobden at the Ridin High Saloon following services.

Joel Robert Schauman was born on Sept. 15, 1959, the son of Gilbert and Janette (Schueler) Schauman in Sleepy Eye. He attended and graduated from Sleepy Eye High School. Throughout his life Joel lived in Sleepy Eye and St. James and worked as a machinist at S & T Industries in St. James. Joel loved hunting, fishing, being outdoors and was devoted to raising his children. He was a lifetime member of Grace Ev. Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye and served as a church council member for many years.

He is survived by his two children, Anthony Schauman of Mankato and Chelsey Schauman of Waseca, siblings, Vickie (Craig) Peterson of Chaska, Michael (Marilyn) Schauman of Sleepy Eye, Jullie (Grant) Hatten of Stewart, Nita (Harlan) Helget of Darfur, Jon (Janice) Schauman of Sleepy Eye, Kayla Nason of Sleepy Eye, Gina Schauman of Hector, William (Stephanie) Schauman of Helena, MT, and many nieces and nephews. Joel is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Janette, grandparents, brother, Daniel Schauman, brother-in-law, Daniel Nason and Gina’s partner in life, Curt Hopp.
