Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. on Friday, July 21, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Monsignor John A. Richter will celebrate the Mass, and burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, and continue from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home in New Ulm.

Richard is survived by his wife of 57 years Darlene (Clyne) Konakowitz of Hanska; his children, Ricky (special friend Tammy Wendland) Konakowitz, Vicky (Dondi) Strassburg, David (special friend Karen Becker) Konakowitz all of Hanska, Kimberly (Keith) Dauer of Mankato; grandchildren, Christopher, Joshua, Paul, Anthony, Denton, Amber, Ryan, Bethany, Andrew, and Jennifer; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Zelda Domier, Joyce (Rich) Lingl; brothers, Larry (Carole) Konakowitz, Garry (Deb) Konakowitz all of New Ulm; and sister-in-law, Kathy Konakowitz of Springfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandchild, Dustin Strassburg; brothers, LeRoy and Delmar Konakowitz.

Richard Harry Konakowitz was born October 24, 1940 in New Ulm to John and Gladys (Harder) Konakowitz. He attended New Ulm Public School. After school he held various jobs including his own construction company where he worked with his brother. Over the years, he also worked for Skyline, Artstone, and the Union Hospital. The last 29 years of his working career, Richard worked at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia. He took tremendous pride in the work he did, especially being able to care for the yard and the beautiful flower gardens at the care center. Richard appreciated good classic country music. Old time county music could always be found coming from his radio. Richard also enjoyed watching Nascar Racing and had a wonderful collection of 1.18 and 1.24 scale Nascar collectable cars. Richard treasured any time he got to spend working with his hands. If it was in his yard, in the garden, or doing construction or mechanical work, he loved every moment of it. What Richard loved the most in his life was his family. He cherished every moment he got to spend with them. He was a 20 plus year member of the New Ulm Battery and a longtime member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Blessed be his memory.
