Janet was born Oct. 6, 1934 in Home Township, Brown County on the family farm. She is the daughter of William (Bill) & Anna (Hoppe) Bertrand. She attended St Mary’s Catholic School and graduated in 1953. After graduating she moved to the Twin Cities and worked at a bank until moving back to Sleepy Eye. She married the love of her life Frederick Tauer on May 12, 1956 at St Mary’s Catholic Church. Together they farmed south of Sleepy Eye in Mulligan Township. Janet was a homemaker until her youngest child attended school then she began working at Advertising Unlimited (BIC Graphic) and worked for 24 years retiring in 1998. After retirement Janet volunteered at the Nex-Tu-Nu.

In her younger days Janet enjoyed dancing, flower gardening, reading, ceramics, playing cards, embroidering, and sewing. As she aged and was no longer able to do some of these things, she took joy in watching her grandchildren grow. In her final years, her great grandchildren were the light of her life. Janet’s faith and family were most important to her. She kept her sense of humor right up until the end and was loved by all who cared for her. She was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church and CCW.
