Hazel B. Chycner, age 78, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Oak Terrace Senior Living in Jordan.

A private family service was held on Monday, July 17, 2017 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.

Hazel is survived by her daughter, Deanna (Paul) Chycner-Leverson; son, Daniel Chycner; Grandson, Thomas (Tiffany) Chycner; great-grandchildren, Mia and Kylee Chycner.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Chycner, her parents and her grandson, Daniel Chycner.

Hazel Bertha Rettmann was born August 9, 1938 to Rudolph and Gladys (Perry) Rettmann in McLeod County. She was raised on a farm by Gibbon. She attended school in district 76 for grades 1st-6th, attended school in Winthrop for 7th and 8th grade before transferring to Gibbon High School and graduating in 1956. She attended Mankato Commercial College and received her diploma. She worked at Pure Oil Company in Minneapolis for 11 years. She also worked at Continental Machine in Savage for 10 years. On July 21, 1962 she was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Chycner at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon by Pastor Kesting. She raised her children in Prior Lake before returning back to Winthrop in 1994. She became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in 1996. She resided at Oak Terrace Senior Living in Jordan.

The family would like to thank Thomas Chycner, Bruce and Josh Fisher, Jim Summers, Butch Mieseler and Fredrick Perry for being pallbearers and to all of the family and friends that were able to attend the service.
