GIBBON — Bernetta Hattie Meyer, 94, of Gibbon passed away Monday, July 10, 2017 at the New Ulm Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday July 13, 2017 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Moltke Township, Sibley County with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Benjamin Rucker will officiate. Bernetta is survived by her sister, Deloris Marquardt of Gibbon; a niece, Edith (Lester) Ulrich of Savage; nephews, Ronald C. (Mary Kay) Kiecker of Gibbon, Chris Marquardt of Minneapolis; great nephews, Jeff (Melissa) Rettig of Gibbon, Jason (Constance) Rettig of Gibbon; great nieces, Roshelle (Trevor) Roth of Burnsville, Cassie (Kyle) Bruns of Kansas, Ashley Kiecker of Wisconsin, Sarah Ulrich of Savage, Rachel (Brett) Melberg of Eden Prairie; great-great nieces, Jordan and Alexis Rettig of Gibbon and her Godchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin “Mel” Meyer; her parents; her sisters, Irene (Ted) Rettig, Ruth (Bill) Olson; brother, Buddy and nephews, Leon (Marlys) Rettig and Darrel Rettig.

Bernetta Hattie Berg was born January 23, 1923 to Michael and Martha (Grochow) Berg in rural Brownton. She attended Country School District 7 until the 8th grade. On June 20, 1945 Bernetta was united in marriage to Melvin Meyer at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn. After marriage she farmed with her husband Mel on his family farm in Moltke Township in Sibley County, where she loved raising chickens, ducks and geese. After farming she worked as a daycare provider for 18 years. She did volunteer work for Kids Against Hunger, Generations for Warmth and Santa’s Workshop for the Gibbon Lions. She loved to travel with Mel going on a Mediterranean Cruise, Russia, Germany, South America, Alaska and Las Vegas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Roof Fund.
