Vernelle D. Botten

NEW ULM — Vernelle D. Botten, age 97, of New Ulm, formerly of Hanska, died Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Lake Hanska Lutheran Church in Hanska. Pastor Sarah Taylor will officiate, and burial will follow in the Lake Hanska Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12:00 – 1:00 pm on Thursday at Lake Hanska Lutheran Church.

Vernelle is survived by a granddaughter, Dawn (Dan) Kuck of Searles; grandsons, Brent (Jennifer) Kjelshus of Hanska and Ryan (Mandi) Kjelshus of Perham; seven great-grandchildren, MaKayla, Kalley & Kasey Kuck, Mackenzie & Sawyer Kjelshus, and Hunter & Hayden Kjelshus; two great-great grandchildren, Steven and Avery; stepchildren, Joel Botten Jr, Darlene Pizel, David Botten, and Julie Untiedt and their families; special step-granddaughter, Jennifer Lang; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Myron and Joel; her parents; a daughter, Leah Rae Kjelshus; son-in-law, Orlin Kjelshus; a great granddaughter, Hadley Kjelshus; and her two brothers and two sisters.

Vernelle Dorothy Frederickson was born on May 20, 1920 in Lake Hanska Township to Ingvold & Inga (Skarphol) Frederickson. She attended Rural District 67 Grade School and graduated from Hanska High School in 1938. Vernelle was united in marriage to Myron Ahlness in 1943. He preceded her in death in 1974. She married Joel Botten in 1977. Vernelle was a life-long member of Lake Hanska Lutheran Church. She enjoyed listening to music, spending time with her family and friends, especially her beloved grandchildren, and watching the Twins.
