Elaine Carol Filzen

NEW ULM — Elaine Carol Filzen, age 78, peacefully passed away at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 after enduring several strokes over the last few years.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Holy Trinity Cathedral in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter officiating. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, July 8, 2017 from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL.

Elaine is survived by her children, Diane (Marty) Larson, David (Tammy) Filzen, Darlene Filzen, Derek (Pam) Filzen, daughter in law Beth (Schugel) Filzen, fourteen grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and her brother Elroy (Barb) Ubl; sisters in law Janet (Kenneth) Mielke, Barb (LuVern) Nelson, and brother in law Thomas Filzen.

She was preceded in death by her husband James (Porky) Filzen, a son, Daniel (Beth) Patrick Filzen, her parents; Elmer and Eleanora Ubl, by her brother Eldor Ubl and sister Elvia (Pete) Jacobs.

Elaine Carol Ubl was born June 29, 1939 in New Ulm to Elmer and Eleanora (Stueber) Ubl. She was united in marriage to James Filzen on July 19, 1958 in New Ulm. Elaine worked as a secretary at New Ulm Furniture Company and cashier at Randall’s Foods. Elaine loved her children more than anything in this world and often said she would do it all over again. Elaine loved to spend time with her family, do laundry, use the computer/ipad, and play games like scrabble, dominoes, Trash, and UNO. She was so loved by her family and will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Holy Trinity Church in New Ulm or to donor’s choice.
