Margaret (Gronholz) Hazzard

NEW ULM — Margaret (Gronholz) Hazzard, 91, of New Ulm died Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at the Prairie Senior Cottages in New Ulm.

Funeral service will be 11 AM Friday, July 7, 2017 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Timothy Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 – 7 PM Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Friday.

Margaret is survived by her sons, Jeff Gronholz of New Ulm, Jack (Beth) Gronholz of Kasota; grandchildren, Joshua, Erin, Zachary, Mackenzie and Jacklyn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Gronholz Jr.; husband, Merle “Hap” Hazzard; sons, George III and Jon Gronholz; sisters, Grace Hasse, Virginia Eichenger and Mary Pehling; and by her brother, Wilfred “Woody” Thompson.

Margaret Caroline Thompson was born December 31, 1925 in Walnut Grove to William and Ethel (Addison) Thompson. She attended grade school in Milford Township and was a 1944 graduate of Sleepy Eye Public High School. Margaret was united in marriage to George Gronholz Jr. on April 10, 1947 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. She was a lifelong resident of New Ulm where she was employed at Herberger’s and also owned and operated Margaret’s More Woman in New Ulm and Hutchinson. Margaret was an avid golfer at the New Ulm Country Club where she was the Women’s Club Champ and also scored two holes in one. She also enjoyed traveling and wintering in Texas.

Margaret was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and the New Ulm Country Club.

Memorials are preferred to St. Paul’s Grade School Building Fund.
