Wanda June Gieseke

NEW ULM — Wanda June Gieseke, age 89 of New Ulm died Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.

Funeral Service will be 11 am on Friday, June 30, 2017 at the Swan Lake Lutheran Church in Brighton Township. Pastor Debra Bergstrand will officiate, and burial will follow in the Swan Lake Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm, and continue from 10-11 am on Friday at the Swan Lake Lutheran Church.

Wanda is survived by her daughters, Christine (Ken) Fluegge of rural New Ulm, Carolyn (James) Drexler of rural New Ulm, Glenys (Bill) Zins of rural Nicollet, Nancy (Rick) Grommersch of rural Nicollet; sons, Jim (Paulette) Gieseke of rural New Ulm, John (Tricia) Gieseke of rural New Ulm; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Gieseke of rural New Ulm; 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; a family that grew to be 86. Wanda is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Mae Mattson of St. Peter, Edna Roegiers of New Ulm; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elroy Gieseke; her son, Donald Gieseke; her siblings, and many other family members.

Wanda June Bergstrom was born June 3, 1928 in Nicollet County to Thimmie and Clara (Quist) Bergstrom. She attended country grade school in Nicollet County and later attended New Ulm Public High School before eventually graduating High School in California. On June 8, 1947, Wanda was united in marriage to Elroy Gieseke at the United Methodist Church in Nicollet County. This union blessed the couple with seven children whom together they raised in rural New Ulm where Wanda worked from home as a mother and home-maker. For enjoyment, Wanda loved to socialize with friends and neighbors, playing cards, and bowling. She was a member of the Lafayette American Legion Auxiliary, the Swan Lake Lutheran Church, and the WELCA Ladies Aid. She will be sincerely missed by all who knew and loved her.
