Benedict “Benny” G. Beranek

GIBBON — Benedict “Benny” G. Beranek, age 72 of Gibbon died Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 30, at St. Willibrord’s Catholic Church in Gibbon. Father Jeff Horejsi will celebrate the Mass, and burial will follow in the St. Willibrord’s Catholic Cemetery in Gibbon.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, and continue from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Willibrord’s Catholic Church in Gibbon. A prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at the church prior to the visitation. Arrangements are being made with the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home of Gibbon.

Benny is survived by his wife, Noreen Beranek of Gibbon; daughter, Patty (Chris) Buerkle of rural Gibbon; sons, Charles (Heidi) Beranek of Farmington, Brian Beranek of New Ulm; grandchildren, Christian and Daniel Buerkle, Courtney, Becca, and Tanner Beranek, and Megan, Emma, and Claire Beranek; sisters, Esther Schwab of New Ulm, Virginia Herring of Lafayette, Grace (Steve) Rubischko of Gibbon, Chubby (Jerry) Carlson of New Ulm; brothers, Wallace (Donna) Beranek of Gibbon, and Gerald (Cindy) Beranek of New Ulm; sister-in-law, Faith (Gary) Borgmeier of Good Thunder.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, John Beranek; granddaughter, Hope Buerkle; brother, Andrew Beranek; mother-in-law, and father-in-law, Elnora and Arnold Busse; brothers-in-law, Larry Herring, Francis Schwab; and god-son, Jerry Joe Schwab.

Benedict “Benny” George Beranek Jr. was born August 23, 1944 in New Ulm to Benedict L. Sr. and Valeria (Brey) Beranek. Benny was baptized and confirmed at St. George Catholic Church. He attended grade school at St. George Catholic School, and later attended high school at the Cathedral High School in New Ulm. On July 16, 1968, Benny was united in marriage with Noreen Busse in St. George. The couple was blessed with four children whom together they raised in Gibbon where Benny worked his 41 year career at the Gibbon Elevator before retiring in 2003. Besides his work at the elevator, Benny took great pride in his community and church. He was and was always willing to give back and volunteer when asked. He served on the Gibbon City Council from 1983 to 2014, the Gibbon Fire Department from 1970 to 1995, and as a devout member of St. Willibrord’s Catholic Church in Gibbon wehre he served many years on the church’s Parish Council. In 1999, Benny was granted the Bishop’s Medal of Service for his commitment to his church and community. What Benny loved most in life was his family, and any time he got to spend with them. Memories of Benny will forever stay in the minds of all who knew him best. Blessed be his memory.
