Elton Vorwerk

GIBBON – Elton Vorwerk, 98, of Gibbon died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016 at the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Moltke Township, Sibley County, with Pastors Benjamin Rucker and Brian Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Saturday.

He is survived by his wife, Marvel Vorwerk, recently of Fairfax; a daughter, Margaret (Ben) Harris of Tomball, Texas; a son, John (Patricia) Vorwerk of Lakewood, Colorado; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons in infancy; and by his brothers, Gilbert and Herbert Vorwerk.

Elton Wilhelm Vorwerk was born June 29, 1918 in Gibbon to Reinhold and Emma (Meyer) Vorwerk. He was united in marriage to Marvel Jaus on June 6, 1944 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Moltke Township, Sibley County. After marriage they farmed in Moltke Township, where he was also employed as a farm machinery mechanic in Fairfax and Hector. Elton was also an outstanding sausage maker, making sausages in his own butcher shop on the farm.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, where he belonged to the Men’s Choir, Men’s Club and he enjoyed traveling, reading and was a Master Gardener.

Memorials are preferred to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or Mayer Lutheran High School in Mayer.
