Jeanette Ida Wanstrom

GIBBON – A funeral service for Jeanette Wanstrom will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 3rd, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon with a visitation from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the church prior to the service.

Jeanette Ida Julius Wanstrom was born Jan. 2, l915 to Alma (Dickmeyer) and Herman Julius on the home farm near Fairfax. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at St John’s Lutheran church in Fairfax by Pastor Albrecht. She graduated from Fairfax High School in 1932 and then worked at a neighbor’s farm as a hired house girl. In 1939 she married Leverne Wanstrom. They had three children and lived their entire married life in Gibbon.

Jeanette had two part-time jobs during their marriage, first at Bullemer’s grocery store for 25 years and then later she was in charge of the ride services for Sibley County in Gibbon for 25 years. An active member of Augustana Lutheran Church for 77 years she was involved as a Sunday school teacher, a member of a circle and the Ladies Aid, a member of the quilting group, and on the visitation committee for shut-ins. She was also on the Committee for the Aging in Sibley County for several years and a member of the Senior Citizen’s group in Gibbon where she loved to play cards. At one time she was in three bridge clubs and also on a bowling team.

All through her married life the family vacations were spent at various lakes in Minnesota and she loved to fish. There was always a big garden at home and she canned and preserved many different foods. She was a wonderful cook and especially liked to bake desserts and was generous in sharing her baked goods with family, friends, and neighbors. She enjoyed playing cards, crocheting doilies, embroidering dishtowels, reading and spending time with her family.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leverne Wanstrom, two brothers, Arthur and Donald Julius, one sister Irene Briese, a son Donald Wanstrom, sister-in-law Ruth Julius, and brother-in-law Edwin Briese. She is survived by two daughters, Claire (David) Frame from Albert Lea and Nancy (Mike) Stark from Mesa, Arizona, one daughter-in-law Charlotte Wanstrom from Deer River, and one sister-in-law Jo Julius from Grove City. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Charles (Kristie) Wanstrom, Eric (Nicole) Wanstrom, Daniel (Carolina) Frame, Lisa (Ben) Koppelman, Jennifer (Mark) Willmert, Polly (Tom) Glaser, Jim (Jessie) Stark and eight great-grandchildren: Warrick and Weston Wanstrom, Sydney and Morgan Koppelman, Annika and Sam Willmert, and Calyn and Graham Glaser, special friends Dick and Diane Isakson and Pat and Dale Ericson, and several nieces and nephews. Jeanette lived a long and happy life and was proud to have made it to the age of one hundred and one. She will be missed by many.
