Freda Hirst

NEW ULM – Freda Hirst, 86, of New Ulm and formerly of Okeechobee, Florida fell asleep in the Lord at Ridgeway on 23rd Tuesday, January 6, 2015.

A prayer service will be held at 3:30 PM Sunday, January 18 at First United Methodist Church in New Ulm with Pastor Ric Jacobsen officiating. A private family burial in the Penn Lincoln Cemetery in North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.

Visitation will be 2 3:30 PM Sunday, the 18th at First United Methodist Church in New Ulm.

The Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements.

Freda is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Jeffrey) Matthews of New Ulm; a son, John (Dorcas) Hirst of Okeechobee, Florida; five grandchildren-John David, Stephen, Katye, Timothy and Abigail; sisters, Lena Detweiler of Pennsylvania, Ruth Wilkins of South Carolina, Jean Weimert of Pennsylvania.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; sisters, Martha and Edna; and by her brothers, Ray, Frank, Guy and Harold.

Freda Grace Harvey was born January 26, 1928 in Saxton, Pennsylvania to Adam and Ida (Steele) Harvey. She was united in marriage to John Henry Hirst September 21, 1946 in Confluence, Pennsylvania.

She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Okeechobee, Florida where her son is the Pastor. She was active in the LWML and the quilters group at Peace prior to relocating to New Ulm. While living in Pennsylvania, Freda served 25 years with the Sonshine Soup Kitchen at Concordia Lutheran Church in McKeesport.
