Virginia Merle Gutzke was born March 17, 1922 in Lafayette, Minnesota to Emil and Barbara (Domeier) Gutzke. She attended school through the eighth grade but then had to get a job to help her family.

She married Earl Mueffelmann in August 1939, and they had four children together, living in Gibbon and then New Ulm for several years. Along with raising four children, she also worked as a cashier at the Red Owl Grocery Store and in the evening was a hatcheck at George’s Ballroom, both in New Ulm.

Ginny married Edward A. Schiro, then mayor of Fairfax, in June 1958 and they lived there until his death in April 1976. In 1980 she moved to Sauk Centre to be near her son, Gary Mueffelmann, and resided there until her death.

Ginny enjoyed ceramics in her early years in Fairfax. While living at Lakeshore Estates, she loved to play cards, a dice game, and BINGO with all her friends there. She was a “people person” and loved visiting with everyone she met. She was a loving and caring mother, and family always came first with her.

Survivors include four children, Sandra (Paul) Krueger of Crosslake, Gary (Nancy) Mueffelmann of Sauk Centre, Steven Mueffelman of Safety Harbor, Florida, and Ronald (Paulette) Mueffelman of Hudson, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Roger “Sonny” Gutzke of Richfield; and close cousin, Ethel Lund of Lilydale.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Earl Mueffelmann and Edward Schiro; two sisters, June Maurer and Shirley Maurer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
