Dorothy Jahnke

GIBBON – Dorothy Jahnke, 93, of Gibbon, died Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Monday, January 13, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon with Pastor Michael Gorte officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Sunday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon; and will continue one hour before the service Monday at the church.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Sandra Staub of Stacy and Mavis Giwoyna of Centerville; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Dawn Jahnke of Cottage Grove; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred “Freddie” Jahnke on April 7, 2010; two brothers; one sister; and by son-in-law, Charles Staub.

Dorothy Marie Abraham was born on November 28, 1920 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Emil and Helena (Arndt) Abraham. On October 6, 1940, Dorothy was united in marriage to Fred Jahnke at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Moltke Township, Sibley County. Dorothy enjoyed baking but her most defining characteristic was her skill as a caregiver to both family and friends. Dorothy was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon and the Ladies Guild at church.

Memorials are preferred to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
