Myrtle E. Fischer

NEW ULM – Myrtle E. Fischer, 90, of New Ulm, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013 at the Buffalo Lake Health Care Center in Buffalo Lake.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brighton Township, Nicollet County with Pastor Melvin Schwark officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Wednesday.

Myrtle is survived by her children, Donna (Terry) Neubarth of Olivia, Brian (Deb) Fischer of Gibbon, Eileen (Ken) Kuttner of Stewart; 8 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 stepgreat-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Alma Voges of New Ulm, Leorda Marxhausen of Bloomington, Marie (Allen) Leinberger of Beverly Hills, Florida; brothers and sisters-in-law, William (Betty) Gieseke, Vernon (Myrtle) Gieseke, James Gieseke, all of New Ulm, DeLores Gieseke of Mahnomen, Evelyn Gieseke of Henderson; sisters-in-law, Viola Lang of Winthrop, Violet Haas of New Ulm; brother-in-law, Hillard Klossner of New Ulm.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Waldemar Fischer in 1998; a son, Steven Fischer in 1964; and other family members, Edwin and Leanora Gieseke, Melvin Voges, Reinhold and Mildred Gieseke, Erna and husbands Sylvester Thill and Harold Schugel, John Marxhausen, Gerald Gieseke, Marlin and June Gieseke, Lorenz Gieseke, Maureen Gieseke, Edna Klossner, Arnold Lang and LeRoy Haas.

Myrtle Emma Gieseke was born May 19, 1923 in New Ulm to William D. and Marie (Ulrich) Gieseke. She was a 1942 graduate of New Ulm High School. Myrtle was united in marriage to Waldemar Fischer on September 23, 1943 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brighton Township. After marriage they farmed in Brighton Township where she was a homemaker and farm wife. Myrtle enjoyed gardening, bowling, playing cards, socializing and taking pictures.

She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, Nicollet County Extension and Martin Luther College Auxiliary.

There will be a catered lunch served after the burial at the Courtland Rec Center in Courtland.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the donor’s choice.
