Doris Melquist

NEW ULM – Doris Melquist, 95, of New Ulm and formerly of Gibbon, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2013 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm with Pastor Bill Gould officiating. Burial will follow in the Clear Lake Baptist Cemetery in Gibbon.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-11 a.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH Chapel in New Ulm.

Doris is survived by her daughters, Karen (Richard) Cook of Rapid City, S.D., Janet (Charles) Bruns of Vergas, Jean (Bruce) Mehlhop of New Ulm; sons, Donald Melquist of Green Valley, Ariz., Vern (Carla) Melquist of Orlando, Fla., Gerald Melquist of San Francisco, Calif.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; four stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond Melquist; sisters, Hilda Kreft, Phoebe Nordlund, Lilly Dahl, Myrtle Melquist; and by her brothers, Melvin, Einer and Lawrence Peterson.

Doris Margie Peterson was born Sept. 1, 1917 in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County, to France and Annie (Melander) Peterson. She attended country school in Lafayette and Gibbon. Doris was united in marriage to Raymond Melquist on May 30, 1936 in Mankato. After marriage they lived in Gibbon and she was employed in New Ulm at Wearwell Garment Factory and then 3M until her retirement. After retiring she was employed at Hands in Winthrop. She was a member of the Clear Lake Baptist Church in Gibbon, Apple Valley Baptist Church and the Gibbon Golden Agers.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the donor’s choice.
