Local briefs: Detour begins Sept. 12 for Hwy 19 Winthrop bridge replacement project

WILLMAR — Highway 19 will close just east of Winthrop as a bridge replacement project gets underway Monday, Sept. 12. Travelers will be detoured to Highway 15, Sibley County Road 10, and Sibley County Road 4 for the duration of construction (see attached map).

Originally planned to start Monday, Aug. 29, the project was delayed briefly to accommodate a utility relocation. The project includes replacing the box culvert under Highway 19 to improve drainage and enhance safety along the corridor.

The contractor is Ashwill Companies and the cost is $984,000. The project completion date is Oct. 14; however, the timeline is subject to change according to weather and other unforeseeable circumstances.
