Authors to discuss “Boy in Blue” Civil War Monument

NEW ULM — Authors Julie Schrader and Bryce Stenzel will visit New Ulm Public Library on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss their new book, “The Boy in Blue: Blue Earth County Minnesota’s Civil War Memorial.”

The book details the history of the original Civil War monument erected in Mankato’s historic Lincoln Park in 1893, its demise and the effort to reconstruct it during the recent sesquicentennial of the American Civil War. Learn how the New Ulm Battery was involved.

NewUlm Garden Club meets Feb. 6

NEW ULM — The New Ulm Garden Club will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. at the N.U. airport.

Guest speaker will be Cara Hanson, new owner of Babe’s Blossoms near Hector. She will speak about taking over the business, and new items and features to entice shoppers. Everyone is welcome. If anyone wishes to join the garden club, dues are $5 for the year.
