Library and CASTLE to screen “(Mid)West of Somalia”

NEW ULM — The New Ulm Public Library and CASTLE will host a screening of the documentary “(Mid)West of Somalia” on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 1:30 p.m. at the library. The film focuses on the stories of nine Somali-American men and women, all striving for success while seeking a meaningful connection to the rural southern Minnesota communities they call home.

The screening will be followed by a question and answer session with Gustavus Adolphus Communications Studies Professor Martin Lang, co-producer Noah O’Ryan, and a panel of three Somali-Americans. German-Bohemian Heritage Society’s Open House

NEW ULM — “My German ancestors are from where? What does it all mean? Germany, Austria, Bohemia,Moravia, Austro-Hungarian Empire, Czechoslovakia, Czech Republic.

Often people are caught off guard when they learn their German ancestors are from somewhere other than Germany. Many Minnesotans have German ancestors from domains of the Austrian Empire, and many have a branch of the family tree from Bohemia, an ancient kingdom whose lands today make up the Czech Republic.

Attend an entertaining free slide show on the history of central Europe focusing on Germany, Austria and Bohemia during the German-Bohemian Heritage Society’s Open House on Saturday, Feb 9, 10:30 to 4 p.m. The presentation is at 1 p.m. at the GBHS – Research Center and Library, 1200 South Broadway New Ulm, MN 56073. Enter the lower level in the back of the building.

Social Media Breakfast Friday

NEW ULM – Social Media Breakfast New Ulm is pleased to bring “How to Use Influencer Marketing in Your Business” program to New Ulm on Friday, Jan. 25.

This free program will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the New Ulm Conference Center/Best Western Plus.

Join Greta Alms, owner, writer, photographer, and pickle-eater for Pickles Travel blog as she tackles questions surrounding influencer marketing and tips and tricks to make it work for your business!

Alms focuses on food and family-friendly outdoor adventures across Minnesota. She has been blogging and helping businesses, restaurants and locations highlight their very best selves since 2014. She has worked closely with locations as close as Mankato and New Ulm and as distant as Big Sky, Montana, Chicago with Enjoy Illinois, and Marietta, Ohio and with organizations as big as Alamo to as small as self-published authors and their books. K of C to hold pancake breakfast

NEW ULM — The Knights of Columbus will hold their annual Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, Jan.. 27, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church Basement, New Ulm.

The event will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Cost of the pancake, eggs, sausage and applesauce breakfast is $6 for adults.
