Concord Singers headline ‘A Holly Jolly Christmas Show’

NEW ULM — The State Street Theater Company will present ‘A Holly Jolly Christmas’, a holiday variety show featuring the Concord Singers on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. with a matinee performance on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m.

The family event also includes festive jazzy tunes by the Armstrong Boulevard Brass Quintet, Steve Odegard as Elvis, and the New Ulm Suzuki School of Music’s Allegro Strings. The Mankato Ballet Company will preview ‘The Nutcracker’ followed by a theatrical reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” The performance concludes with a holiday sing-a-long lead by the Concord Singers.

Enter the Ugly Sweater Contest and win two tickets to the ‘Forever Elvis’ Concert. Internationally known tribute artist, Anthony Shore, will perform with his nine-piece band and backup singers on Jan. 19. Winners also receive complimentary tickets to the pre-event Tiki Lounge. General admission seating is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 & under. Children will receive a holiday hat while supplies last. Home for Christmas, 1944

NEW ULM — The Grand Center for Arts & Culture and State Street Theater Co. present “Home for Christmas,1944” on Friday, Dec. 7, 7:30 p.m., featuring Patrick Dewane in a multi-media one-man show. It takes place on the stage at the State Street Theater at 1 N. State Street.

Based on actual events, it is about a World War II American officer who miraculously liberates the Czech villages of his grandparents. Dewayne brings this archival material to life as an enthralling, humorous and heartwarming tale of miraculous escapes and astonishing coincidences. This touching show runs from belly laughs to tears. Dewane takes on a dozen different roles as he powerfully recounts his grandfather’s journey from Omaha Beach, the Battle of the Bulge, and the end of WWII.

St. Nick at the Library

NEW ULM — The New Ulm Public Library will host St. Nikolaus Eve activities on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. Families can enjoy a St. Nikolaus-themed storytime and craft, followed by a visit from St. Nikolaus at 6:45 p.m.

Treat bags will be available for each child, generously provided by Domeier’s German Store.

Brownton All-School

Reunion planned

BROWNTON — Alumni and friends of Brownton High School are asked to save the date of Saturday, July 27, 2019, when the next Brownton All-School Reunion will be held.

A mailing has been sent to graduates of Brownton High School with more information.

Graduates of McLeod West High School are also invited.

The Reunion Event will be held July 27 at the Brownton Area Civic Center (former BHS West Wing and Gymnasium), with a social beginning at 5 p.m. and a meal at 6:30 p.m., followed by a program and music.

The Reunion will be held in conjunction with the “Brownton Days,” also being held that weekend.

More Light: A Solstice

Celebration

NEW ULM — On the longest night of the year Nora Unitarian Universalist Church will rejoice in the darkness and entice the sun’s return with silence, song and ritual, and light refreshments. Music by Dick Kimmel. All are invited, to this no-cost family friendly, community event.

The celebration will bel held Friday, Dec. 21, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at the Beach House, Flandrau State Park, New Ulm.

Free rides provided between Summit Avenue and the Beach House.

Park entry is free with a state park sticker on your car. Park entry for those without a sticker choosing to drive in is $7.

New Release Movie at Library

NEW ULM — The New Ulm Public Library will show a newly released DVD on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. This movie is rated PG-13 and runs 120 minutes. Popcorn will be served at this free event, which is sponsored by the Optimist Club of New Ulm. For more information, call the library at 507-359-8331.
