Make butter at Historic Kiesling House on Sunday, June 17

NEW ULM — Following a slight delay in getting the 2018 started, the Historic Kiesling House will open Saturday, June 16. The house, built in 1861 by pioneer settlers Friedrich & Caroline Kiesling, underwent major repairs and this spring including replacement of the siding and windows.

The public is invited to learn how to make butter at the Kiesling House Sunday, June 17, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Visitors will have an opportunity to help make the butter. They will experience the stages of making butter including churning, removing the butter milk and shaping the butter. A variety of butter churns, molds and other items used for making butter will be on display.

Explore the past at Historic Kiesling House constructed in 1861; it survived the US – Dakota War of 1862 and is the only wood-framed house from that era remaining in Brown County. Participate in a wide variety of experiences scheduled at various times throughout the season.

Learn about early pioneer settlement, customs and traditions of area immigrants and events, like the US-Dakota War of 1862, that shaped New Ulm. Examine the development of community and influence of social and political issues on area residents.
