“Murder: Say Nix to Hollywood” at the Brown County Museum July 14

NEW ULM — Hollywood comes to New Ulm, at least for an upcoming Murder Mystery dinner theatre production on Friday, July 14 at 6:15 p.m. at the Brown County Historical Society located at 2 N. Broadway.

The mystery is set in one of New Ulm’s most beloved and German looking building. The plot centers on a movie to be made about local historic figure, Jacob Nix, that will star Anthony Hopkins.

General admission tickets are only available, in advance, at the Chamber of Commerce downtown New Ulm. Dinner and a show are $49 per person, including a three-course dinner and nonalcoholic beverages. Seating is limited. Walking around the museum to listen for clues is a part of the show. An elevator is in the building. No tickets will be sold at the door.

This original murder mystery is written and directed by Paul Warshauer and features a cast of local performers. Catering is by Gutes Essen.

Otto Schleissithoff, hog farmer from Essig, made his fortune through unique farming techniques. His wife, Ivana Schleissithoff, wants to invest in the Hollywood film making business. She has contacted a big producer, C.B. DeMillstone, to help them with the project. Otto has always been a history buff so he selects the story of local pioneer and New Ulm founder, Jacob Nix and the US-Dakota War as a backdrop.

His wife hires Anthony Hopkins to play the older Nix and Brad Pitt to play the younger Nix. As a setting DeMillstone wants to buy the current Brown County Museum and all of its contents to add authenticity. Naturally the Museum Director, Lotta Doüst and board members are upset that their historical artifacts will be used and destroyed in the making of a movie! Local historian joins forces to oppose Otto with a few business folks.

The Chamber of Commerce President Suzie Sunshayne is excited about the movie as she sees many jobs and a potential walk on role in the movie. Mayor Wilbur Flipflappah is on the fence. One thing is for sure: One person will be murdered and one will be the dastardly murderer!

Call (507) 233-2616 for more information. Tickets available at the Chamber may be paid for in cash only.
