MLC Organ Concert

NEW ULM – MLC students Cassie Schwark, Lena Petermann, and Alyssa Stuebs present a joint organ recital featuring music of Bach, Mendelssohn, Reger, and Widor, on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 1:00 in the Chapel of the Christ. The recital is free and open to the public.

Bob the Beachcomber Concert

NEW ULM – Everyone loves a beach party, and now the kids can join in the fun with this special show for families and children, featuring Bob the Beachcomber on Saturday, Jan. 31. It wil be held at Jefferson School Gym from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. The concert is free.

Everybody is encouraged to sing along, clap their hands, stomp their feet, get up and dance, and enjoy popular and familiar music. Each performance involves total audience participation, along with palms trees, beach towels, sharks, toucans and more.

Warming House closed

NEW ULM – The Warming House at Harman Park will be closed this week due to the warm weather causing unfavorable ice conditions. CASTLE Studies Prairie Tales

NEW ULM – CASTLE, Community And Seniors Together Learning Environment, announces the start of its “Follow the Seeds – Prairie Tales of Southern MN” class, Monday, Feb. 2 at 2:30 p.m. in the New Ulm Community Center with retired MLC Professor Arnold Koelpin.

Members will learn about the history of early settlements in south-western Minnesota and cover topics in landscape, immigration, cultures and people.

Other Winter Term Courses include “The Science of Drone Planes” with instructor Justin Bucholz, a Jon Hassler book discussion with facilitator Richard Jacobsen partnering with the New Ulm Library, and a second “Wanna Have Fun Luncheon” presented this time by Judy Sellner speaking on the history of theater in New Ulm.

New CASTLE members are welcome at any time of the year. Members’ $95 annual fee will have a renewal date one year from their initial date of payment. Members may attend any and all classes and events throughout the year at no additional charge. Potential new members are welcome to attend one class before joining. ‘Have a Heart’ Gala Feb. 21

NEW ULM – The New Ulm Medical Center Foundation is hosting their 12th Annual “Have a Heart” Gala on Saturday, Feb. 21 at the New Ulm Event Center.

The evening starts at 6:30 p.m. with a Social Hour, Cash Bar and Silent Auction. Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. with a Live Auction to follow. Entertainment begins at 9:30 p.m., featuring Deuces Wild Dueling Pianos. Deuces Wild features an unlikely and surprising mix of music-they do it all and they do it hilariously well. Tickets are available for $85 per person or $680 for a reserved table for 8.

This evening of fun and elegance, will raise funds for the Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute with the New Ulm Medical Center.

Dairy Queen fundraiser

NEW ULM – Dairy Queen in New Ulm will hold a Blizzard Day fundraiser on Wednesday, Jan. 28, with Pro Kinship for Kids.

A portion of each Blizzard sold at Dairy Queen all day today will go to support Pro Kinship programming for youth in Brown County.

From 4-7:30 p.m. people can also bring children or anyone that is a kid at heart can come make some crafts and play games for a donation to Pro Kinship. This is a chance to get a feel for what it is like to be in Pro Kinship for Kids, or to get questions answered on being a mentor or having a child in the program.

Some of the activities you can do will be create your own foam art snowman, decorate a votive cup, create a wood snowflake, play ring toss, cup toss, and fish bowl toss. Face painting is also available.

Theater Workshop on Feb. 21

NEW ULM – State Street Theater Co. will conduct a theatre workshop, “Our Own Beauty and the Beast,” for children grades K- 6 at the Off Broadway Theater, 15 N. State Street, New Ulm.

The one day workshop is on Saturday Feb. 21, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Snacks will be served to the participants, then a performance is at 4 p.m. Cost is $25 per child. Reservations are mandatory and a limit of 15 participants. Participants will create an entire production using improvisation and pantomime. No sets, costumes or props.
