GFW Board fails to address new building issue

GIBBON — The Gibbon Fairfax Winthrop School Board removed a resolution for a centrally-located future preschool-12 building project Monday.

Building site requirements included municipal utility connections.

Superintendent Jeff Horton said the board will consider the resolution at a future meeting.

Horton said retiring staff were honored at the meeting. Retirees included fifth-grade teacher Maren Briard, 34 years; and paraprofessionals Jean Bode, 32 years and Julie Grunke, 12 years.

“As a retirement gift, we’d like to offer you a chance to travel. Take a GFW school bus driver application,” Horton said.

The three retirees took the applications.

Approved district donations included $250 from James & Holly Beasley for the Nolan Majeski scholarship; $250 from Guidecraft for Thunderbird Community Arts; $100 from Chuck and Joyce Firle to Thunderbird Community Arts, $50 from Nathan and Jennifer Thompson for Thunderbird Community Arts; $25 from Pat and Lana Schreiner for Thunderbird Community Arts and a $25 theatre donation from Joe and Rebecca Vos.

Elementary principal Jennifer Thompson reported T-Bird Community Arts hosted tryouts for “The Sound of Music” and 34 people, age 7 to adult, were cast in various musical roles. Performances are Aug. 4-7.

Mandy Blumhoefer served as art camp director this year. Students performed “The Lion King Kids” on the last day of camp.
