Detour set for US 14 Sanborn-Springfield project

MANKATO – Motorists traveling U.S. Highway 14 between Sanborn and Springfield can expect a detour beginning Monday, May 9, weather permitting, as crews resurface more than eight miles of the highway, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The project includes:

•resurfacing the roadway,

•upgrading pedestrian ramps and sidewalks in Springfield,

•adding school crossings at Cass Street and at East End Avenue in Springfield,

•adding centerline rumble strips, intermittent shoulder rumble strips throughout the corridor and structural snow fencing in two locations to control blowing snow.

Highway 14 from the west side of the Sanborn four-corners intersection to the eastern limits of Springfield will be closed and traffic detoured during construction.

Traffic will be detoured south from Springfield to Brown County Roads 3, 23, 2 and 21 to Cottonwood County Road 11 and Highway 71 during construction.

Access will be maintained for local residents and businesses. Construction is expected to be completed in early August.

Benefits of the project include improved pedestrian accommodation, smoother road surfaces and increased safety along the corridor.

Springfield work includes road resurfacing, upgrading pedestrian ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities standards, adding sidewalk along the north side of Highway 14 from North Park Avenue to E. Rock Street, adding a school crossing at Cass Street and at East End Avenue, plus adding centerline rumble strips and intermittent shoulder rumble strips throughout the corridor.

Visit the project website for more information and to sign up for email updates at .dot.state.mn.us. Information will also be shared on the MnDOT South Central Minnesota Facebook group and the MnDOT District 7 Twitter account.

Duininck was awarded the project with a bid of $4,617,300.
