Library story time to offer kids some before-bed fun

NEW ULM — For the next seven weeks the New Ulm Public Library will host bedtime stories in the Children’s room. Jammies are recommended.

At 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday through March 2, Youth Services Librarian Kathryn Tatnall will be reading bedtime stories to children. Each night will have a different theme. Children are encouraged to wear pajamas and bring their favorite stuffed animal. If kids do not have a stuffed animal, the library can loan them a stuffed animal for the evening.

Tatnall said the program was designed as a nice, relaxing thing for kids and parents before bedtime. It was also a chance to add variety to the library’s programming.

Wednesday was intended to be the first night of Pajama Party Storytime, but the recent cold spell kept children away. The next bedtime story hour will be Wednesday, Jan. 12. The theme of the stories will be Snow and Snowmen.

The library will also be continuing its adult programming, Thursday with five-week seminar series — Evaluating the News.

The seminar will cover the history of news reporting and how to recognize bias in reporting. The senior series will take a deep dive into the media analysis, exploring different case studies.

Each seminar will last one hour and feature real-life news articles for analysis.

The seminar starts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the New Ulm Library meeting room.
