Museum’s Menzel Christmas Village and Holiday Display are open

NEW ULM — The public is invited to visit the Brown County Museum at 2 North Broadway Street in New Ulm to view the Menzel Christmas Village and Holiday Display.

In addition to the Menzel Christmas Village, other holiday items are on display, including historic children’s toys from the museum’s artifact collection, White House Christmas ornaments, and Secret Service Christmas ornaments loaned from the collections of Julie (Weldy) Ferrell and the late John Weldy, and holiday postcards loaned by Opal (Havermeier) Dewanz.

In 1981, Nancy Reagan began the tradition of issuing an official White House Christmas ornament. Since then, the White House Historical Association has designed a new ornament each year. Also displayed are several Secret Service Christmas ornaments. These ornaments have been created by the Uniformed Division Benefit Fund of the United States Secret Service since 1991.

The holiday postcards on loan from Opal Dewanz were sent to members of the Havermeier family by their friends and family. The postcards demonstrate the varieties of greeting cards sent during the early and mid-20th century.

This exhibit will be on display through December 2021 on the second floor of the Brown County Museum. For more information, call: 507-233-2621 or email: education@browncountyhistorymn.org.
