Highway 68 ravine repairs complete and road open by Thanksgiving

MANKATO – The detour for Highway 68 between New Ulm and Mankato will be removed late on Wednesday, Nov. 25 as the final ravine repair work is complete.

The major slope slide in the area south of Courtland has been complete for several weeks, but necessary repairs to a steep ravine nearby took longer than initially expected due to challenging logistics and weather.

On related emergency ravine repairs from summer rains, Highway 22 south of Mankato remains closed over the Thanksgiving Holiday and traffic detoured to Highway 83 and Blue Earth County Road 90 until early December.

Redwood Area Schools go to distance learning

REDWOOD FALLS –All Redwood Area School District students will move to distance learning as of Monday, Nov. 30.

In an effort to prepare for the learning change, students do not have school Nov. 23-27. The change was made after school superintendent Becky Cselovszki met with the COVID Committee Nov. 17 as Redwood County COVID cases rose.

The school district plans to return to in person/hybrid instruction Dec. 14-23, pending weekly reviews before Dec. 14. School is planned to resume Jan. 4 with a learning model to be determined.

Cselovszki urged the public to do its part in an effort to allow students to return to school by social distancing, wearing masks, staying home with symptoms, hand washing and sanitizing and having safe holiday gatherings.

In an online presentation Nov. 18, Carris Health Redwood Administrator Carnie Allex said local health care workers are tired and thinly staffed and that when the public demonstrates it does not regard the COVID-19 pandemic seriously, it adds to healthcare worker frustration and morale erosion.
