Race develops for GFW school board seat

WINTHROP — While a number of city offices and school board seats did not have candidates filing for office as of Monday afternoon, a race developed for a Gibbon Fairfax Winthrop (GFW) school board seat recently.

Three candidates filed for Winthrop seats on the GFW school board — Nathan Loewy, Drew Schmidt, and Pete Schukert.

Carl Rains Jr. and Casey Prochniak of Gibbon filed for two open GFW seats and Daniel Merkel of Fairfax filed for the Nov. 3 election.

No less than six candidates filed for three seats on the Redwood Area School Board — David Allex, JoDee Altmann, Mark Dressen, Andrew Lueck, Darin M. Prescott, and Matthew Tiffany.

Three people have filed for the Redwood Falls City Council Ward 1 seat — Jena Beller-Schmidt, Denise Castle, and Denise Kerkhoff. Matthew C. Schmidt filed for Ward 2 and John Buckley filed for an at large city council seat.

A race for Morgan mayor was created when Robert H. Fischer and Jerry Huiras filed. Corey Reding filed for a city council seat.

Sharon A. Donnay and Tom Polich filed for city councilor at large in Lafayette. Sandra Peterson filed for mayor.

A race has developed in Sleepy Eye. Scott Krzmarzick filed to challenge Ward 1 incumbent Joann Schmidt. As of Monday afternoon, Chuck Forster and Christina Andres filed for a Ward 2 seat held by Larry Braun. Sleepy Eye Mayor Wayne Pelzel refiled for election.

In Gibbon, Greg Hartmann and April Hillmann-Firle filed for two city council seats. Steve Klukas filed for mayor.

Robert Clay filed for mayor and Michael Losleben filed for city clerk-treasurer in Evan.

In Courtland, nobody filed for mayor as of Monday, but Ralph Bents filed for one of two open city council seats.

Kelly Pierson is running for mayor in Winthrop. Peter F. Machaiek filed for one of three open city council seats. Megan Schmidt filed for an open city council seat.

Fairfax Mayor Brad Augustin refiled for election. Steve Schmidt filed for one of two open city council seats.

In Gaylord, Scott Kuphal filed for one of two open city council positions.

Brycen Christensen and Joe Sullivan filed for two of four open Cedar Mountain school board seats.
