Free food distribution July 28 in SE

SLEEPY EYE — For those in need of food or struggling to make ends meet due to the COVID-19 crisis are invited to receive food in the Sleepy Eye Baseball Park parking lot July 28.

Pre-packed boxes of produce, dairy and meet will be distributed safety via drive-up/curbside pickup from 3 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, July 28. Food will be loaded into trunks by volunteers who will maintain social distance.

No registration or paperwork is necessary. Only basic demographic information will be asked of participants such as ages of individuals in each household. No names, addresses or other identifying information will be asked.

Drivers are asked to take State Highway 4 south through Sleepy Eye, turn west on Southdale St. S.W. (the street between Chuck Spaeth Ford and BIC), to Seventh Ave. S.W., turn right and go north to the baseball park parking lot.

“We had a good response to the June 23 food distribution event in Sleepy Eye, so we are pleased to offer it again, said Sandra Beito, who is in charge of the Weekend Food Program at Trinity Lutheran Church and a Sleepy Eye Food Shelf board member.

“If you are one of the many experiencing unexpected hardship due to the coronavirus crisis, you are most welcome to participate in this program and learn more about food resources available for people in this area,” Beito said.

The event is open to all households in need. Parters include Brown County area food shelves, the Sleepy Eye FFA, the Trinity Weekend Food Program, Second Harvest Heartland and the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box.
