Prep work for National Guard shop

Construction crews are at work preparing the road that will eventually lead to the new Minnesota Army National Guard (MNARNG) armory and field maintenance shop.

NEW ULM — Construction crews are at work preparing the road that will eventually lead to the new Minnesota Army National Guard (MNARNG) armory and field maintenance shop.

In 2017, the city transferred 30 acres of city-owned land to the MNARNG for the project.

Once complete, the new National Guard site will consolidate other facilities across the state and bring them to New Ulm. This will expand the capabilities of the New Ulm maintenance shop and add additional full-time and part-time employees in New Ulm.

Road and infrastructure work is needed before the building project begins. The access road to the facility will connect with the round-about near Menards.

The project is expected to be complete by October 2021.
